OSHAS 180001: 1999 is a Health and Safety Management System and
is based upon a proactive and preventative approach to hazards
in the workplace by the correct identification of the hazards,
comprehensive evaluation of the risks involved, dedicated control
measures being implemented AND continual feed back to ensure
that risks are continually evaluated.
NSAI
The National Standards Authority of Ireland are the accredited
authority within Ireland to register companies as complying with
the requirements of OSHAS 18001: 1999.
The NSAI are also the accredited body for certifying companies
in relation to quality and environmental standards, likewise they
are the authorised body for compliance procedures in relation to
machinery, electrical equipment, pressure equipment, toys, explosive
atmosphere equipment and medical equipment.
Why Seek Accreditation?
Accreditation to OSHAS 18001: 1999 is a clear signal to
a company's clients that a clear and unambiguous standard exists
within the organisation in relation to the essential health
and safety of the workforce and systems of work.
It is common knowledge amongst employers that the spiralling cost
of work related personal injury claims is becoming crippling to
say the least. The new Personal Injury Assessment Board, that will
review many of these cases, which are by assessment of written submissions
only, and which can only be persuaded of a company's commitment
to safety, when proof of a National Accreditation has been submitted.
Of the companies that have achieved accreditation, they have all
unanimously claimed reduction in last workdays, fewer accidents,
recognition by insurers and improved worker satisfaction.
