Return to Machine Safety Controls

Control Phylosophy

When we discuss safety controls, our first thoughts turn to guards or emergency stops, perhaps even to safety light curtains or light sensors, which would have been correct for around the time the first machinery directive was introduced in 1989, however, two amended Directives and into three decades later, we must now consider safety controls in light of the change in technology of machinery.

Machinery has become more automated and components faster in order for the manufacturer to maximise on the product cost/sales ratio. It would appear then that any increase in the technology of the machine assembly should haveĀ  a similar if not more enhanced increase in the safety function technology.
