An
accident is essentially an unplanned event that causes injury
or distress to humans, animals or the environment.
In Ireland alone, the cost of industrial accidents is estimated
at between 300-400 million Euro per year.
Add
to this civil claims against local authorities and insurance
companies, we can safely estimate that such total costs are
in the region of in excess 1 billion Euro.
If we now look at where this money goes we can spread the costs
between: -
* Last time at work
* Overtime
* Reduced Input
* Solicitors
* Barristers
* Expert Witnesses
* Witnesses
* Administration
Each
of the areas cost are real and necessary, however, how can the
defendant in claims negligence defer or indeed by-pass costs?
The answer is good safety management by a dedicated person with
full authority by senior management for cultural change in relation
to safety ownership and responsibility.
JGMA can assist companies to implement this cultural change
in short but worthwhile in-house training.
