Technical files are a key element in establishing safe work equipment
in that they contain all the relevant information about the equipment.
Such information as speeds, temperatures, pressures, products,
materials, fumes, waste, noise, weights etc. are all essential to
carry out risk assessments.
Likewise, such collected information can be of paramount importance
to users later on I the lifecycle of the work equipment, e.g. when
modifications are carried out, key information within the file,
could be of vital importance for risk assessing the modification.
It must be borne in mind that where a designer creates a machine
today, he or she may be at some other work place in five years time
or indeed a new member of the organisation takes up responsibility
for a machine, without sufficient and relevant information of which
may lead to a hazardous situation.
The Directives call for a range of information to be made available
in Technical Files and in order to fully satisfy this requirement,
it is suggested that such information should be in the format of
Annex I to the Directive, so that there is a certain ease of comparison.
